I just installed my new LG GSA-4081B http://www.lg.ca/computer/prodSpecification.asp?p=3336
and have successfully burned 3 Memorex 4x DVD+RW discs. However, using Roxio, and selecting 4x burn speed, it will only burn at 1x speed. Since LG recommends Fuji or TDK DVD+RW blanks, I tried a Fuji 4x DVD+RW and used Decrypter to burn. I managed to get 1.3x speed, but that's it.
The main reason I bought the LG is for the 4x burn speed with DVD+RW. I've checked LG's website, and there don't appear to be any firmware upgrades -- the drive was built in Feb/04.
Can anyone offer any advice on how to speed this baby up?

OK, so I answered my own question:
My computer is a Dell. In my computer's documentation, it specifies that all drives should be set to "cable select," which I did -- despite the LG recommendation to set the DVD drive as "master." So I switched my drives to "master" and "slave," and now I have 4x writing speed with DVD+RW, plus much faster ripping.
Perhaps this information may of some value to someone else.
Now I have to start researching the DMA/PIO issue...
