DRU500 working with ASUS dvd-rom

I have Sony DRU500 (writer) as master and ASUS 608 (reader) as slave in same IDE channel. My ASUS is 6x DVD-ROM but it rips the DVD's only at 2x with this configuration.

When I put ASUS alone as master in the same IDE channel it speeds up to 6x as it should.

Have anyone else experienced this problem?

I now Sony has this restriction of ripping speed being 2x. But could this be the reason for slowing down the ASUS too? Help?

I believe you'll always get better speed ripping and writing if the two drives are NOT on the same eide cable.
