    Greetings,
My sony vaio has a combo dvd/cdrw drive. It is region 1. It reads dvd copies and most dvd's but can;t see some of my dual layer discs (ie movies). The movies are region 1, no scratches on them at all, drive plays others fine, but has the same probs with the same discs. Every once in awhile it may detect the dvd and then play it. Also, I try to use decryptor, shrink, and windvd, and mmp. Even in "My Computer" file it just shows: E: As if there is no disc in it.
    It's a mat"shit"a ujda-730 drive.
any suggestions? ps won't play greek wedding, blue streak etc...

Could it be +R(W) vs -R(W)?

I'm having this problem with factory made discs.
About a half a dozen titles can't be seen by either decryptor, wmp, windvd, even explorer.

Sony site mentioned some discs not compatible but this is a dual layered disc from the production company.
