Whenever I insert a dvd into the drive it starts to sound like a motorcycle starting, and starts shaking. Whats going on?

Do the DVD's have labels that YOU put on them? Stick on labels can cause problems sometimes, but I have never seen one make the drive shake. Maybe it's on the way out.

No labels, but I also noticed that Windows media player won't read the disc either.

How old is the drive? Have you ever cleaned it out?

The computer as a whole is just over 4 years old, not sure how old the actual drive is, nor do I know how to clean it.

Shoot some canned air in the drive to blow any gremlins that might be in there and maybe a laser head cleaner.

Labels was the first thing I thought of too, because it sounds like something is out of balance. If it does it with all discs you put in it, it's probably time for another drive. They are pretty cheap now days......
