Hi my pc has a dvd RW drive installed and is four years old.Recently i decided to install a new dvd drive on my pc.Now i have found out that the old drive is a DVD RW drive and the new one a DVD RAM drive. What is the difference between them since a dvd disk recorded with the new dvd drive cannot play on my standalone dvd recorder connected to my TV.The old drive records disk that can be played. Please help. Thanks

I have a burner that includes 'RAM' in its name - in my case it only means that it can read and write to DVD-RAM disks (among all the other types like -R +R and RW).

If you use ImgBurn for burning the disks it will list the burners capabilities as far as disk types.
I believe Nero also has a tool (Nero Info Tool?) that does the same.

I assume you are burning the same disks as before - they burn without an error message and play OK on the PC?

A DVD-RAM can work like a hard drive. Great for DVR machines.
