I have both CD-DA X-Tractor and Roxio Easy CD Creator 5.0. I am running Windows 98. Lately, I've begun to have trouble ripping tracks from both homemade and purchased music CDs.

Sometimes the tracks rip perfectly onto my hard drive and sometimes all I get is static. I get both static and complete tracks from both the CD-DA X-Tractor program and from the ripping part of the Roxio program and it doesn't seem to matter if I'm ripping from homemade or purchased CDs.

Since my results are inconsistent, it's hard to troubleshoot. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks!!

try shutting down as many programs as you can before ripping. you can also try cleaning your cd-drive with a lens-cleaner. de-fragging the hard-drive can't hurt either.
