I've just started using these programs and everytime I backup a DVD with it, the movie is all messed up. There are a lot of pauses in the movies I have backed up and is not of a good quality. This has happened EVERY SINGLE time. I don't know what's wrong..can anyone help? Thanks.

Hi lalcarin welcome to AD. There are lots of very good guides to be found in here. I would advise downloading some, print them off, and go through the application slowly.
If you still have problems, then it may well be crappy media (ie) poor discs'
Also get a couple of RW discs' to practice with, saves money in the end.

    good luck and happy burning,

Hey lalcarin, we need more info:

What media and format you burning?
    How fast are you burning?
Are you viewing these backups on a stand alone player or your pc?
Are you compressing the entire dvd or reauthoring it for main movie only?
Are you multitasking while you do any of the dvd backup process?

And like gringle stated, get some rw's.

Hey lalcarin, what brand name are those dvd-r?
Did you try main movie only:reauthored in dvd shrink?

Did you view those backup discs on your pc to see it pauses there also?

Download this handy, free trial, program that you can run your dvd-r's through to find out who manufacturered them.Look for the manufacturers code like:cmc,mcc002,ricohjpn01,mxlrg-02. Still sounds like a media issue. By looking at those backups in your pc,this will help narrow it down.

It says: Media code/Manufacturer ID RITEKG04
I tried the movie only and it still didn't work.
I have these other DVD-Rs made by Compusa and others made by PRINCO.
I watched it on my PC and it was fine.

The ritek go4's are pretty good, can't say that about the princo's.Some members do have trouble with them.

Your pc plays those backups ok,it pauses whether you reauthor or not in that stand alone.

Sounds like your stand alone player does not like that burn.It may be the media or the burn speed is too fast for it.

Can you try lowering your burn speed, maybe even down to 1x if you have to. Some stand alone players have a harder time reading burned dvd's. If you have a dual format burner, try some +r's.
You can try some rw's, but stand alone players have a lot more problems reading them.

What brand and model # is your burner?

My DVD-R drive is IDE1004. Firmware version 0151.
I watched some movies on my computer and it pauses every now and then but its not as frequent as when I watch it on tv.
I'll try burnbing it at 1x.
