How long should it take to back up a dvd. At present with shrink it takes about 22 mins to back up the movie and about 12 minutes to burn to blank dvd. Total time is around 30 mins. Is this reasonable? I have P4 3 gig, 1 gig ram, 80 gig HD.

It depends on the quality settings in DVD Shrink you used, whether or not the movie is a a type 5 or 9. I can rip a type 5 movie in about 6-7 minutes and burn it in about 7 and a half minutes. If it is a type 9 that depends on a lot of different factors such as how large is the movie, some DVDs are easier to read and therefore rip faster. The larger a movie is the longer its going to take for it to be compressed. With DVD Shrink the compression time will vary due to the different quallity settings. If you use the high quality settings then compression alone will take an hour or more.

I think, if you have P4 2.5Ghz/more processor then the processing time is a very little issue.
It's depend on the DVD speed and burner speed.
    1X ~= 1.3 MB/sec.
    - read/write 4.7 GB at 1X is about 60 min.
    - read/write 4.7 GB at 2X is about 30 min.
    - read/write 4.7 GB at 4X is about 15 min.

Note that, many 4X burner, they will write at 4X speed (~ 15 min to write) but they read at 2X speed or 30/more min to read/shink:)

Very reasonable. For some people it takes 1 or more hours.
