Gspot 2.51 is telling me that it has "176 codecs loaded" from my system. When I go to SYSTEM> LIST CODECS... I have many duplicate codecs. Is there anything bad that may occur from this?

It could cause conflicts, giving you problems. It's always best to keep codec's to a minimum and just keep the one's you need for your audio/video.

i like my things squeaky clean, less friction, and shiny.
    its time to reformat.

Hmm, interesting. So do I go through my System32 folder & start trimming the fat as I see fit, or is there some kind of logic to this?

no, that is too risky if you don't know what you're doing. and the fat is not only 1 type.

check out the add remove programs. or under device manager, find the video codec.

but i think reformat is the best step.
