@sammoris I agree with your point on the hard drive heat as well as mine. I know from personal experience that a computer will lock up if the hard drive gets too hot, different temps for different hard drives. I do remember reading the article on heat has no effect on how long a hard drive lasts but my point is to keep it cool so your computer does not lock up.
Data loss that causes PCs to crash typically doesn't occur unless the unit is well above 55C, and if it gets that hot, one wonders what you'd be doing wrong. If you had a failure at 48C I don't think it was heat related.
Back the the guys problem look in bios and check the right things are enabled mostly this problem is bios related
Wel, what else is there left to try? BIOSes usually enable S-ATA by default, so I wouldn't say the problem being BIOS related is common, but it's something worth looking into before replacing the drive.
i am currently using the same mobo- have you set the bios to non raid operation. bios setup-advanced screen-ide config-onboard sata operation option from -raid to non-raid. install os as normal no need to press f6 during set up. hope this helps I missed it first time
sam lol the 'common' is that if you get it right there is no problem if you muck up and call out people like me, more often than not the fault is bios settings new boards are adapted it's only the older boards have this type of problem mostly this is the difference between reading a lot, and actually doing the hands on, You look at the modern stuff and forget that old stuff still exists but it seems mostly you do a good job
My old VIA chipset Socket A board, which should be of a similar date to this (Manufactured June 2003) also automatically arranged my S-ATA for me. Not having come across a board that doesn't led me to assume they all did. I stand corrected.
I HAVE THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM! Except I used to run my SATA and then installed an ATA drive. Sounds like you had the ATA and added the SATA drive. I still havent figured it out. It doesnt detect my SATA drive either, tried both slots, tried enabling and disabling IDE mode, tried bios updates. AHHHHH.. I'm running a different motherboard its an intel D865PERL
