modified portable cdplayer

    can a cheap portable cd player be modified to read mp3s on a 4.7 dvd-r, if so how? this would be a cheap alternative then paying hundreds of doallars for a 40g mp3 player.

    I would imagine it would be possible, but most definately not worth the effort. DVDs store data in a much more (physically) compact manner. the rings on which the data is stored are much closer together and smaller than on a CD. You would have to completley reprogram the device, and possibly even replace the laser. The amount of time it would take you to do this would no doubt buy you an iPod or similar device were you to spend it working at a job earning actual money.
