I am capturing DV output into mpeg2 using the ati-all-in-wonder radeon 9700. I want to edit these files, for example extract arbitrary parts, but can't find an editor. Virtualdub can't even recognize the files.

    TIA for any help

What are the atributes of your mpeg2 files.

    (right click>properties)

I thought virtualdub supported mpeg2 editing.

    I thought that vdub didn't support mpeg2... (?)

If you must use vdub, you could frameserve the mpeg2 video via avisynth.

    Perhaps that's what I was thinking ?

I use AviSynth, and sometime you forget it's stuck in the middle.

I have used virtualdub for editing but have had problems. If one wants a piece of a video file, is the option strem copy? Isn't there an easier way?

what's so hard about that? What are you trying to do exactly?

Suppose you want to extract a piece from an mpeg2 file without any additional processing. Is there a simple way? I have tried this: convert the mpeg2 file to avi with dvd2avi, run vfapi and then use virtualdub. But directstream option didn't seem to work.

    Isn't there a direct way?

    rollo,

    Go here :- http://www.puremotion.com/index.htm

There's a program there called "Edit Studio" You can download if free for a 30 day free trial.

It's a great programme, with lots of features, and it will accept mpeg2 files.

    Give it a try.
