ok heres the problem. i was trying to get media player 11 but it was coming up with validation problems. so i found out my copy of XP wasn't legit which sucked cause i got the laptop off ebay. so i tried this validation crack, didnt work.... but now when i turned me laptop back on it wont open, it stays at that login user screen saying that their was a problem with the windows validation.

this isnt the worst of it, i got a copy of windows and it wont evne try and boot it, it ignores the cd drive. it sone of those external cd drives byt he way. i hear it buzzing away but it doesnt come up with anything and just goes to the login menu with the same error!!

    kinda sucks hey....

Your supposed to boot the CD when the computer turns on. So when your at your menu screen insert the CD and then restart your computer. Then when your computer starts booting it will ask to boot the computer from CD press any key to continue. Now you have to make a new parition with no errors on it. So press 'D' to delete the parition that is being used and it will ask you are you sure to continue press 'L'. Once that is done press 'C' to create a new one and then it will ask you how much space do you want to use in this parition just press enter to use maximum amount. Then it will ask you to format it. Choose the Format with FAT file system then it will says since your Drive is bigger than 2000MB it will be formatted in FAT32 system just continue. Once all that is done you will have to reformat it again just like before choose FAT system again. After that it will boot up into the windows installing menu. Look at the Microsoft site for better detail.
    (Keep me posted)

    Hope it helps

maybe it was my dislexic style of typin :)

anyways i think i have it workin, i opend her up in safe mode ( a real safe way too, i unplugged it and let the battery drain out haha) yeh but then i found another crack for windows which let me in but i dont think did the job proerly.... so i reformated the old fashioned way with a copy me mate had and a downloaded keygen...

Why do that? Just do an XP clean install. I mean how were you going to install linux? By booting into a linux CD right? If you just do a clean install of XP, you don't have to work twice.

Btw, do you know if the external drive is being detected in the BIOS? Or in Windows?

i was installing XP once then changed processor and memory

i think the OS read the changes as someone trying to get around copy right

i also believe it put something "write protected" on my harddrive which rendered that hard drve useless to clean install XP on

finally to rectify situation i use MaxBlast4 (the harddrive installation software) to zero the whole drve

bingo the XP loaded and all was once again well in the universe as i know it

hope that helped...give more info on things you've tried

    good luck
