Working on an XP P4, with a PRINCO PR121032A writer, nero 5 does not see the writer, used to work. thought the drive was defective, however XP sees it as a recorder, tried another writer HP 9100, same problem. any ideas. Have cleaned REG and reinstalled hardware swopping drive allocations etc. NO GO!!!

What you need to do is look at the following keys for the UpperFilters and LowerFilters in the registry... List all the drivers and make sure there is no blank lines between each name. Also, do a properies on the filenames listed in %systemroot%\system32\drivers.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. Repeat the process for CurrentControlSet1 and CurrentControlSet2.

Do you have the latest Nero ?
Nero 5.0 didn't see my Yamaha CRW3200 just because it was not supported yet.

Actually, he said it used to work so if it doesn't see it anymore. It usually has to do with those keys in the registry since that's a common Win2k/WinXP pro issue especially if he tried to upgrade a earlier build of Nero 5.5 inside XP. I think it had to be prior to 5.5.7.2 though since those versions would mess up the Upper and Lower Filters and the only way to do the upgrade install is to do it in SafeMode. This was later fixed in newer revisions of Nero.

Thanx for the advice, will go for latest Nero and drop OEM with writer. Definately a Nero problem with it's dislike to reg keys.
Other burn apps work no problem, but still prefer Nero as first choice!
