I'm trying to make a VCD of a 700 mb file, but on the little capacity meter it says my project is going to be 815mb, even though I disabled menus. What's wrong?

Since I'm taking a walk here, I'll answer you here.

Dis you chooose VideoCD, on Nero? If you did, Nero will try to convert those AVI into a MPEG-1 VCD. This creates a little problems.
    A) the PAL/NTSC VCD files must have a resolution = 352x240/288. Quality will, more likely, decrease.
    B) An AVI can have a size which does not depend from the novie's length. The AVI quality will change, but simply by using your bitrate calculator you can make your AVI as large as you want.
Instead, VCD movie size must be = 10 MB * length (in minutes).

That is: you might have, in those 700 MB AVI
    1) a 80' movie which, once transformed to VCD MPEG-1, will be 800 MB (which fits on a 700 MB CD-R), or a
    2) a 2h movie (120') which, once transformed to VCD MPEG-1, will be 1200 MB (which doesn't).

If your DVD player can read DivX simply, on Nero, burn a Data CD. Nero won't try to convert that AVI and
    - will leave it as it is (a 700 MB AVI will fit on a 700 MB disc)
    - will keep its quality (for instance, a 640x270 movie will remain so).
