old hard drive to new hard drive without old drivers

    I have a p4 3.2, ecs motherboard,250 gb hd I am upgradeing to e6750 2.6 asus p5kc motherboard
    question

    1 what is the easiest way to keep my old files with out keeping my old drivers I dont have a my old software disk girlfriend tossed them so If I do a fresh install Ill be downloading for ever

    2 if I get a new hd can I transfer the os, my files, without the motherboard drivers? thanz hope to here from someone soon

    One option is to connect the hard drive to your new system and then run the xp disk to perform a repair installation of xp, so it will adapt to your new hardware and keep your old files . I have done this a few times and has worked fine.

    Before you try this i would backup most of your files just in case something was to go wrong. Maybe other users have a better idea?
