Hey y'all, I thought I'd give this a shot here. I was going to give this computer away as a gift but now it's all screwed up.

I got into a big mess with a Windows install one of my PCs and to make a long story short, I reformatted its hard drive by hooking it up to my other machine and formatting the disk. It shows the drive and the partion when I check it.

My problem is when I hook it back up to install windows, there's no drive or partition listed. I tried throwing in the recoveries, told me to run FDisk, but it comes back no fixed drives present. I checked the connections, I don't know what else to do without an OS.

Does somebody know what went wrong?

Thanks for replying to my thread.

The jumper is on master. I don't know if the motherboard recognizes it. How do I check out that?

not sure what you mean by reseat, so I guessed and disconnected then reconnected them. Don't know about the pin 1 thing how do you tell? I don't think it's upside down or anything.

pin 1 is the single wire that is a different color from rest of cable, could be black, red or whatever. look at the cable on the cd/dvd rom drive to see what i am talking about. is the cd/dvd rom drive on same data cable or different 1

I put the bad hd in the new computer and I get the "no os" message after trying every jumper configuration possible. I'm definite that this had worked before in the new computer, and I remember switching it back and forth to make sure I wasn't seeing things. I was in device manager checking it out and it's the only hd of that size so I wasn't looking at the wrong one or anything.
