Ive downloaded a couple of movies I want to burn onto a DVD. I have converted the movies to dvd format with "XtoDVDconverter". Your nec burner does not like the media you are using. You should update your burner's firmware, and maybe those discs will work. You have version 203D, 203E is available: ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/rmsd/203E.zip However, even if you update the firmware and you will be able to burn, the discs you are using are poor quality. I would buy some Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, or discs made in Japan(Sony, Maxell, Fuji- not made in Taiwan or India though). I bought at Office Max 100 verbatim discs for $25, two days ago. Pretty good deal.
Updated my firmware now, still not working. So its probably the poor discs I bought that causes the problem?
For what it's worth, I dont convert my AVI files before using Nero, I just do the lot with NeroVision...heres a guide http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/Guides/alkohol_guide3.html Try slowing your burn to 4X
Most of my DVD rips from torrents are aXXo avi rips. I use Nero Vision, drag and drop file, set it to double pass VBR for better quality. Nero works fine for me converting avi to DVD. The discs I am using I found,(HP DVDR 16x Taiwan), but I agree with above poster about quality discs.

@skrewtiz It doesn't really matter what program you use for conversion in this case. It is all about prefferences. For example, I need subtitles for my .AVI files, as I watch many asian movies. I use DVD Flick for conversion, since it is free and supports subtitles. And I am satisfied with the quality when I set it to do 2 passes. Your problem however, is the burning to disc part. I know it is hard to see money thrown out the window, but you burner doesn't like those discs. Maybe you got lucky, you bought a smart burner that won't take anything but good quality media. Try some discs that were suggested above. Check and see is Office max still has the Verbatim sale.

Glad it works! Should I say "I told you so?:~) Many people are in denial first,don't belive in "good discs" and "bad discs", "hoping" that somehow the discs have nothing to do with a failed burn. They don't want to waste money. It's understandable. Sometimes, even the quality discs might not work with certain burner, if they are not compatible, supported by a certain burner's firmware.
