    I was looking at my Windows Framework and Visual C++ files and there are several.

    I have Net Framework
    2.0 Service pack2, 3.0 Service pack2, 3.5 SP1 and another 3.5 SP1

    I have for visual C++
    Three versions of 2005, 2008 x86 9.0.21022, 2008 x86 9.0.30729.17 and 2008 x86 9.0.30729.6161

    Cant I uninstall the earlier versions, or delete them? It would seem that like most programs they would overwrite with the newest version, yeah?

    I called Microsoft regarding this same issue. They gave me a lot of double speak. But, what I was able to gather was that all of the files are necessary. At least that is what I got from it all.

    You could call them as well, see if they changed the tune.
