Hi, I just bought a new DVD-R writer, the LG GSA-4163B. It suppose to read at a speed of x40 and write at a speed of x16, but it only read at max speed of x10 and let me write at a speed of x4 max. can anyone help me? i tried using the nero InfoTool and this picture is how it suppose to look, and in my case the write speed is x4 and read speed is x10
The 40X speed is for CD and unless you are using a 16X blank DVD it will only write as fast as the blank media you inserted. If the media is rated at 4X then that is the fastest it will go. Write (CD-R) : 4X, 8X, 16X, 24X, 32X, 40X (CD-RW) : 4X, 8X, 10X, 16X, 24X (DVD-R) : 2X, 4X, 8X,16X (DVD-RW) : 1X, 2X, 4X, 6X (DVD+R) : 2.4X, 4X, 8X, 12X,16X (DVD+RW) : 2.4X, 4X, 8X (DVD-RAM): 2X, 3X, 5X(Ver.2.2) (DVD+R Double layer): 2.4X, 4X Read (CD-ROM/R) : 40X max (CD-RW) : 40X max DVD-ROM)(Single/Dual) :16X/8X max (DVD+/-RW) : 8X max (DVD+/-R) : 10X max (DVD-VIDEO) : 8X max (DVD-RAM) :2X, 3X, 5X(Ver.2.2) (DVD+R Double layer):8X
First you need to install the newest firmware for your drive here is the link http://us.lgservice.com/gcsc/b2c/hpi/main Then Check in your Device Manager and make sure your drive is in DMA mode here is a link for that http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/DMA.html Then let us know what media type and brand you are trying to write to and read from?
