Is there a tool that will allow me to split a large AVI into several user specified pieces?

I've tried downloading several but they all seem geared to spliting the AVI into batchs by time or if you specify start / stop locations they allow only one split.

I'd like to upload my Hi8 tapes to a single two hour AVI and then split each two hour tape intro logical events such as:

    - Picking out christmas tree
    - Christmas Concert
    - Christmas Eve

You get the point. The ideal toll would allow me to specify splits on several AVI source files and then start a batch spitting process that would process them all. I also want the final output to be lossless AVI just like I started with.

    Is there such a tool?

If you have a two hour avi my suggestion is to leave it as one and setup sometype of scene selection or indexes when you make your dvd. You wouldn't have to worry about quality loss and lots of people know how to do it.

As far as I know tools like that only work with mpeg.
