My computer at work sometimes restarts without warning. No BSOD, and the CPU can be idle when it does it. This is not an overheating issue...fans turn fine and everything stays very cool.

Now, here is why I know it is not a virus: when the systems restarts, it sounds like it powered off. The hard drive spins down, the fans turn off (all fans, 3-pin and molex powered)...it sits for about 5 seconds, and then the HDD spins up, the fans turn on, and the system starts up like nothing went wrong.

This is something I have never seen before, I am thinking my power supply is going bad, but I guess a short circuit could cause the same problems...and the wires seem fine, but perhapse some componenet has an internal short?

Anyone seen this before? Any ideas?

I hope so...the only way I'll ever get a new computer here is if the old one burns to a crisp!
