That super volcano will probably go off when our troops leave Iraq and we start getting all that cheap Iraqi oil from all of Bush's friends in the oil buisness!!!

us Americans don't have to worry about oil for now. Bushy convinced congress to pass the Bill to start drilling for oil in Alaska. They won barely, by a 51 to 49 vote. So lets go destroy a wonderful un touched environment just for oil. The real kicker is that scientists only estimate there to be 16 billion barrels of oil up there...and the US consumes 7 billion per year! Do the math on that one! Man I hate Bush

I just saw a preview on discovery channel - they're doing a sequel to the supervolcano documentary. This one is a whole program about what would happen when Yellowstone erupts. It airs sometime in April I think.

Learned about this in my GEO class a while ago...yellowstones first eruption that we know of was 2MILLION years ago...the second one was 1.2MILLION and the third(the latest one to go off) was 600THOUSAND years ago.. so the guess that it will go off soon is correct only if you give or take 200thousand years...

The supervolcano in yellowstone also grows about 4inches a year...in other words the ground in yellow stone rises as much as 4 inches each year!

However, there is another supervolcano that is closer to erupting than the one in yellow stone. It is in California. (sorry I dont remember the name of it) they have actually found sediment from the last eruption where i live in south texas (thats a long ways from cali for those of ya who dont know!)

but no matter where you live in the U.S. if one of these goes off we are all screwed because the ash from these will practically cover most of the earth. MT. ST. Helen's ash measured .1 cubic mile. Thats enough to cover 10 city blocks in 50 stories worth of ash. Now think of this. the ash from a supervolcano will probably measure 600 cubic miles!!! yea i would say we are all screwed...

This is what I was told in my GEO class at least

Hope this informs some people who are interested.

I was thinking of booking one of those Shuttle Flights - if I win the lottery - build a place on the moon.

Do they have volcanoes on the moon?
