I purchased a USB 2.0 to IDE adapter. When I plug it into my front USB port it says that it installed and the hardware is ready to use. I want to read an external hard drive, however I cannot find it anywhere on my computer other than on my Device Manager under Disk Drives. How can I find the drive and be able to use it?

Is the external drive formatted? If not, go into Computer Management/Disc Management, and format it.

If it is formatted, you need to label it. Again with disk management assign it a drive letter.

There is nothing in my Disk Management other than my C: drive and Cd-Rom.

try it on the backside usb ports as i usually find that the front ports won't work with drives over a certain size. i had no problems with 6.4 gig 2.5" laptop drive on front ports but won't pickup a 40 gig 2.5" laptop drive, only the backside usb ports would.

Thanks for the help, but I tried the backside ports and still nothing. It still shows up in the device manager but I cannot find it on my computer.
