Ok i recently had to wipe my hard drive and reinstall Windows XP. And now i've encountered a problem. When i play a VOB file movie with VLC in order to get the sound to play ok i have to select AUDIO DEVICE and put it on "2 Front 2 Rear" or "Stereo" or "Mono". It won't play if its on 5.1

Why is that? Am i missing a driver from dell or what?

so you have a dell .. you probably need the ac97 hd audio driver.. dell are notorious for listing the wrong drivers for their hardware.. so start off by looking for your motherboard number.. then dell site for the driver they suggest.. then if that makes odd noises guess a near version.

    http://sound-drivers.org/?squery=Dell Computer

has about every driver there is.
