I have a DVD burner, the free software (DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter and Nero). Do I need a separate player or can the DVD burner do it all? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

if you are trying to stay with the free programs you need something to remove the protection on the movies. As far as free programs go, and simplicity I would recommend dvdfab HD. Then you should be good to go since you already have Nero. Yes, your dvd burner can do it all.

Take a look around here and read up, there are many different ways to do your backups, and what might be best and easiest for someone else might not be the way you end being what you prefer...

Welcome to Afterdawn, read the forums and search the guides.. you will be burning like a pro in no time.

you can get dvdfab HD here

dvd shrink and dvd decrypter aren't updated anymore so they will have problems doing alot of the newer movies without help. you can run anydvd behind dvd shrink and get it done or use DVDFab decrypter to rip the movie first then run it though dvd shrink and burn with nero.

or you can use clonedvd 2 + anydvd which would do it all for you in a few steps there a free 21 day trial if you want to try it

and a guide to use the programs mentioned here

remember to use good blank media like Taiyo Yuden,Verbatim or Made In Japan Sony,Maxell or Fujifilm burning no faster than 8x with update firmware for your drive/burn on a clean machine without other programs running

and yes you can use one drive to do it all if you want
