Hi all, I'm ready to upgrade from my 4x liteon to 12x sony dvd burner, because im hoping that the faster burner will alieviate the stoping and freezing in the middle of my burned movies. Ok. I have a couple of questions i need answered PLEASE: 1) will the faster burner help? becuase even though i do a deep analysis of the movie it still freezes sometimes. 2) What is the difference between the 4x and 12x? 3) Is sony a good burner to upgrade to? Please help! I'm going to purchase this burner in 2 days. Thanx
Hi dbridg2 Let's start at the bottom and work up. Sony makes good burners but alot of members here use Lite-on and Plextor. They have perhaps better support. Obviously, 12X is faster than 4X. But not necessarily better. I wouldn't recommend top speed in the faster burners yet, 4X is about right Now,, as to the stopping and skipping, there are several things which couls cause this. Poor media - What media do you use? Running software in the backround - (virus prog. and screen savers)? What programs are you using? (Shrink/Decrypter)?
Thanx for reply so quickly. I have O.S XP and when i mean stopping, the dvd stops after its already burned. This doesn't happen all the time but too often. I use Copy to dvd to burn my movies. I usually don't run anything in the background when im burning because i don't want it to freeze. Are u saying that i shouldn't purchase the faster dvd burner? I want it to burn faster than it is. And i am currently looking to purchase a new computer. Its just a matter of choosing the right one. Any ideas? I know that this is a lot to throw at u but any help is appreciated. Thanx
Anytime you burn above 8x without the help of a very fast computer you will probably have burn errors on your movie. Burning at 8x also requires top quality blank media. As already stated your problem is more than likely from cheaper/ poor quality media. Before spending money on a new drive, try some better blanks. Jerry
I only use Ritek grade A. Another good choice is Verbatim. I don't back up as many movies as before so I buy 50 on line, then when I get down to about 10 I reorder another 50. Expensive isn't always the good ones. Ritek are about $.50 each. Jerry
Not necessarily ... As Jerry pointed out, you can get Ritek's for .50 Verbatims may cost you a bit more, but are good media. Also your not saving that much time burning at 8x & 12x
Hi Again dbridg2 I buy Ritek GO4's 4X dvd-r in 50 or 100 ct. cakes for about $.47 plus it's free shipping and a good company. Check out newegg.com and meritline.com
Hi dbridg2, Did you notice what I did ? When you were asked the following: You told us your OS system - You told us what you meant by "stopping" - and You told us that: regarding the freezing and then you said, Huuuummm, it doesn't happen all the time But then you run things in the background sometimes - (I'm betting there's no way you ever shut down anything while you were burning) BTW, there isn't a version of CopyToDVD that rips and processes a DVD on the market today. I guess finding what media you're using is completely out of the question, Huh ? (Gee, and Newbies complain about us not giving exact information - Wheeeew We ask the questions and they won't even read what we write. Gee guys, tell me why we bother ?)
Yea Bigfoot30, but you asked so clearly and precisely and he just blew you off like you didn't exist. and you, just trying to help him and all - an him treatin' ya like you was dirt - I'll bet he doesn't treat his Mum and Dad like that - Woooo, what a whoopin' he'd get if he did
How it going this evening Pete, You,, I was just lurking and saw a post where they asked how old everyone was. I was amazed to find out how many of the folks here are so young. Nuthin wrong with it, just kinda made me sit back and wonder what an old goat like me was doing here,,, lol
