Hey all I've been here and there trying to research this dvd-r drive I got my hands on. Its a Pioneer DVR-A04 (according to the label on the drive). Its firmware is only up to version 1.20 and in my system properties it has no region codes set and i think it says I can only make 5 changes.

Now it seems people are saying the 1.31 fw is the best version. And I found a link to this site:
    http://firmwares.co.uk/
This has got me confused, too many choices so I figured I'd hit the forums for the pros consultation.
Also once I choose a fw I'm not sure what the method is to do it.

I'm totally new to dvd recorders. Any interesting tid bits on this drive, pass them along.

    Thanks, Jason

Hi IrocTD, Here are 2 more sites to look at.
    For more firmware information:
    http://ww.rpc1.com.

For more information on the drive itself:
    http://www.videohelp.com.

On the second site, click the dvd writer tab on the left side, then enter your model in the search block. Good luck.

    Thanks for the reply Jerry
Thats awesome how the second site reports on different media reviews.
    I found a site
    http://dvd-recordable.org/
which had a great section on explaining the different firmwares and I can now decide which one.

    They are all bookmarked :)
