Has anyone done this? Is it possible to create a short (10-20min) movie which a DVD player treats as a DVD movie even though it is written on CDR media?

hmm, it's possible, but it would not be dvd format, and it also depends on what type of format ur dvd player reads. if ur dvd player reads vcd, or divx then it would work, try posting in the Digital video discussion > VCD / SVCD, or the divx forum, and you should get a quick response

I've done it. I took a 30 minute video, recorded it on DVD to be under 700 MB, burned it onto a CD-R. Then I sent it to my mom so she could see it on her computer.

Thank you ken0042, I will definetly try your suggestion, good tip with the 30min length. Exectly what I wanted, write a short clip in DVD format, not VCD/SVCD/DIVX, because that can cause compatibility issues.

    Thanks again
