I was recently in a shop where they had a Samsung Blu-ray running on a Samsung 1080P 40 inch LCD panel.
Now, I have a Samsung LCD Panel. 40 inch, 5000:1 contrast, 8ms, 1360 x 768 resolution. I have to say that the picture quality from the Blu-ray 1080P panel was no better than what I get on my Samsung panel from a HD tv broadcast. I was very dissapointed. I was expecting to see a deffinate improvment going to 1080P.
The Blu-ray movie being played was SWAT which was 1080P resolution through HDMI. I'm seeing as good a picture on my panel from a HD broadcast going through componant.
What is going on? Is 1080P overrated?

Try looking for an HD-DVD demo. Some BluRay releases have been reviewed as inferior compared to HD-DVD with respect to picture quality.
