    hey ddp

    would this 80 wire cable be the one that comes with a harddrive?

    redice, depending on the computer manufacturer & age of computer but usually yes is 80 wire.

    bmwowner, the 80 wire will have the standard 3 connectors which 1 of them will be blue for motherboard.

    ok ddp but is there away to tell the diffence from 40 wire and a 80 wire?

    redice, 80 wire cable has more wires but thinner in diameter & stiffer than 40 wire. also 1 connector for motherboard is blue.

    ok thanks ddp and using this 80 wire would help my dvd drive speed some?

    might see speed difference tho depends on drive & motherboard.

    I have about the same computer as you - Athlon 900 Mhz, 512 MB RAM, 64 MB geforce 3 (hopefully gonna upgrade it soon), and the liteon sohw-1693 works just fine. I can copy DVDs at 8x speed without a problem. The only problem is I cannot do much while it is burning a DVD, as it will use the harddrive at maximum.

    I finally got around to looking at the cable.It is a fairly stiff cable with a red streak on one side.Is this a 80/40? I also found out that the one installed is a sohw-1633s.

    if has a blue connector on 1 end for the motherboard than is a 80 wire 40 pin cable

    The connector attached to the mb is blue with what looks like a blue jumper of some sort. I guess I"m good to go then?
