redice, depending on the computer manufacturer & age of computer but usually yes is 80 wire. bmwowner, the 80 wire will have the standard 3 connectors which 1 of them will be blue for motherboard.
redice, 80 wire cable has more wires but thinner in diameter & stiffer than 40 wire. also 1 connector for motherboard is blue. bmwowner, no probem, teach & learn
TO RagePH: I have about the same computer as you - Athlon 900 Mhz, 512 MB RAM, 64 MB geforce 3 (hopefully gonna upgrade it soon), and the liteon sohw-1693 works just fine. I can copy DVDs at 8x speed without a problem. The only problem is I cannot do much while it is burning a DVD, as it will use the harddrive at maximum.
ddp, I finally got around to looking at the cable. It is a fairly stiff cable with a red streak on one side.Is this a 80/40? I also found out that the one installed is a sohw-1633s.
The connector attached to the mb is blue with what looks like a blue jumper of some sort. I guess I"m good to go then?
