my laptop's a little suckier than yours but it never take that long to burn maybe u should defrag ur hd or maybe some adware or trojan in ur system that's slowing it down but 16hr 43mins god that's impossible.

Thanks for your replies. Yes DMA is enabled, HD only fitted a week ago and only 1.5g used. Comp has been defragged recently. Latest Nero used. Up until 72hrs ago I was a "happy little burner" as it was only taking under the 50mins to burn same format movies and I had 100% success rate (37/37). I am in process of downloading movie again and then will give it another go. Its saturday arvo here, thought Nero may have been taking the weekend off. LOL

Nero on strike here, better raise its salary! *_*

On the other hand, you may try encode with another program (e.g. VSO DivxToDVD) and compare the results.

    Good luck!

Are you sure you checked all your DMA settings? Both primary and secondary? The reason why i ask this is it sounds just like what a computer does when it gets stuck in PIO mode. A friend of mine had this same problem happen to him. Shrink used to take 30-45 minutes to encode for him, and then went to hundreds of hours to encode at one point. I checked his DMA settings and his burner was in PIO mode. I set it back to DMA by uninstalling the driver. Sometimes your burner is on the secondary IDE channel. Worth taking a look at. Drives get in to PIO mode if you run in to too many CRC errors. {i think it only takes 6 CRC errors before windows steps in and slows you down to the PIO mode which uses CPU(slow) instead of memory(fast)} Windows will secretly put you in to PIO mode without telling you in any way, and it will stay that way forever unless you do something about it.

Sounds like a PIO mode issue to me. Just out of curiosity, is your (are you aware of your) computer infected with any sort of viruses, tronjans, hijackers, etc.? Is your fan dirty with dust? Try cleaning/blowing the inside of your computer if needed.

Thank you to all who have replied. For the sake of those who think I am MULTI POSTING I advise that at 18.23 on October8 I posted to say that I managed to reduce burn time and thanked those who had responded. Some 10hours later Creaky accuses me of Double Posting. I was satisfied with result and assumed that particular thread was finished. I then posted another problem in another thread, obviously Creaky thinks it's against Forum Rules to do so, if I am wrong then I sincerely apologise. If a member has 2 problems with different matters is he NOT alowed to post in different forums? If I am double posting now it's only to let each forum know what is occurring.

Pls read my reply to the other thread. I would hope you and many others would know me well enough by now, from the way I conduct myself in the forums to not think I am against helping ppl. I spend a lot of time here and am simply here to help. Pls do not think its personal or unfair, I obviously got it wrong on this one. As I said on the other thread, sometimes (in my opinion) its easier for all concerned if a similar problem is dealt with in one thread, however that's just my opinion and as someone who troubleshoots endlessly I believe wholeheartedly in 'making my journey useful'. I'm rambling now but let's not make a mountain out of this one, no malice is meant and I'm sorry you don't know me well enough to (possibly) think otherwise

Glad you had success. I checked the other thread creaky posted and it looks like you had a conflict with anti-virus programs.. Those conficts are hard for remote troubleshooters like us to fix. It really did sound like a DMA setting. I am glad you are back to the world of burning :) I don't need to post here if a mod wants to close this. Good Luck
