I did the Sonoy Online Chat thing again this evening. (I wonder is it a real person, or some sort of AI?)

anyway, they gave me a page where I can check warranty info.

Since I bought my unit on 2-Sep-05, I'm still covered for Parts and labor.

I have two options, send it to Sony Factory service, or take it to a Local Authorized Repair Center.

I posted this fix for the unopening DVD tray problem on Agoraquest, a Sony TV/DVD/Etc. owners forum:

"I was sure I was going to have to return this player. As it turns out, it fixed itself.
For anyone who has this problem in the future, here's how it fixed itself:
I unplugged the Sony for awhile, then plugged it back in. Got the 'Welcome' display, then the 'Sony DVD' display. I tapped on the eject button with no results. LEAVE THE PLAYER ALONE! Apparently, the DVD player is quietly trying to still read the DVD in the player, although it doesn't display anything. So after 5-7 minutes, I get the 'Disk Error' message in the display. Then I hit the Eject button once again, and finally, it ejects the disc. I repeated this by reinserting the same disc to make sure it wasn't just a fluke fix, and the player again was stuck but worked after I repeated these steps. Apparently, it's something with the DVD I burned and not the player. If you send it to have it fixed, it probably will stick again if you reinsert that same DVD. In other words, it's the disc and not the player. I've tried other DVDs in the player and it works fine now. Hope this helps someone in a similar predicament in the future."

Thanks - I'll give that a try. I've already had the playerunplugged for a long time (per Sony Recommendation). They say this will 'reset' the player.

I will try the other steps when I get home tonight and see if I can get my DVD back out.

I still am concerned about the problems I have had burning DVDs though.

    pharvey,
I was really worried when my Sony recorder would not open because, honestly, I had a DVD+RW copy of porn stuck in it. ;) I am almost certain that if you follow the steps I outlined, it will work. I think the Sony is relentless in trying to read it, and just freezes up like a PC.
Is your Sony recorder able to handle ALL 8X rated media? My GX300 manual specifically says it can't handle 8X DVD+RWs, and since mine isn't firmware upgradable, I can only use 4X and slower which is fine with me because they are alot cheaper. I paid $30 for 100 Ridata 4X DVD+RWs, and they work very well. BTW, stay away from Imation. My problem disc was not Imation, but a similarly poor maker - HP. Stay away from Philips too.

I bought this recorder and took it back to Bestbuy. I have done a lot of off air recording such as the SCIFI channel in 4 hour mode. The Sony did not come close to quality that a Phillips, Panasonic and a Liteon do. The picture was weak and had a lot of spidering and blocking in fast changing scenes. Maybe it was just a bad one but I took it back. That was a month ago and just today I counted 4 open box units which means other were not satisfied too.
