    Hi again lol

Ok i have bought a USB to RS232 Cable of fleabay and stupidly did not check it worked with vista, and it does not ! i have googled the net and there does not appear to be a driver for it to work on vista ! arrgghh

Can anyone post me a link to where i can but one of these cables that will defiantly work with vista that comes with the correct drivers.

    Thanks again all

That's what it say's on the page but not to sure it's correct!!!, drivers supplied, if you go down that route, then make sure that you query in shop that it definately works on Vista,(they will be aware what you want it for when you mention NULL MODEM) - it is the drivers and the correct assigning of the COMM port that is required, now if you already have one of the Adaptors then you might find this link useful, you can get drivers there to okay >>>>>>>

EDIT:- You will have to query that for certain, it looks like a straight through USB RS232 serial to me, but might be wrong.

Not sure what cable you are talking about or have got, I have re-checked that link and it looks like a straight through USB serial cable only, you definately need a NULL MODEM cable not just RS232, okay so go to here and read down and look at the graphics, this is what you need to flash your box. >>>>>

Have a look at this one on fleabay, found this with the first search and you get them both at a good price. Reading the spec. it say's that Vista drivers are acailable for DOWNLOAD, you can email the seller to verify this, it is essential that you get the drivers, as I said the price is right for them both, and they are what you need for the job, have a read of the specifications.

i have to admit i do get annoyed when i read posts and people help and then they just dissapear without even a thank you. Without people like you helping there would be a lot of people like me that would not even get passed first base on stuff like this.

I have ordered that one you sent me the link too, i am taking a chance on there being vista drivers to download like it says in the description, its only £7 all in so not losing much if its no good.

Again thank you no doubt ill be back with more problems lol

Yes, agree with your observations but that is some people lol, as regards the drivers it does say that they are available for download. So email the seller through fleabay, your order will have been processed and paid for, so a reply will be forthcoming, and get the information, when you do, it would be a good idea to pass it on for other people in a similar situation as yourself. ;)

oh ofcourse, if it works i will post on here,

Just a side note, i noticed on the one on maplins that i posted a link too, is says in the FAQ that it works with a null modem, so i guess that would have worked too assuming you can get vista drivers. would you agree with that??

i noticed you edited your message to say

You will have to query that for certain, it looks like a straight through USB RS232 serial to me, but might be wrong.

Does that mean you think thats the right one ??

It was only an observation as the two questions appear to me to be contradictory, but as I said - might be wrong, (but the spec say's it is the correct one) but that is what I was referring to and that's why I edited the post so that you could verify with them, but I have known the guys in Maplins to give the incorrect cable when specifically asked for a NULL MODEM, earlier threads are littered with the same thing. And as for the drivers the 3rd question answers that, you search for your own, which is fair enough, probably what your ordered product means, but email anyway.

    Q) Can you email me a pin out diagram for this product. Or can you direct me to where I might find one?
    A) the pin out is that of a standard RS232 (serial) device.

    Q) Is this compatable with null modem cables?
    A) Yes the product does support that

    Q) Does the item work in Vista
    A) The item is plug and play under Vista usually but we have found in some cases the installation will not go through. In these cases install disk supplied and when it refuses to install correctly (which it will do) use the option "search internet for updated driver" and the driver will be updated to the working version.

The main thing is that you have now ordered the correct gear anyway, it is a matter of getting it done now with Vista, so best left for now.
