PAL and NTSC have nothing to do with burn times or quality of the movie. They are specs for where you live and what your player is set for (some players will play both). NTSC is North America and Japan. PAL is the rest of the world. You are experiencing long times due to the trasncoding NOT the burn. The AVI that you download has to be converted to a format that your DVD player will understand. That is what is taking the time. Not the actual burn process of the disc. You could shorten your time spent by using a different convertor to transcode the movie.
I would like to know as well. I have used WinAVI, new and old versions, and the dvd was choppy, audio was off...etc. I'm burning/transcoding some home video from .avi now with Nero, and am interested in seeing the results. 3/4/5 hours isn't a big deal to me, just 'set it and forget it'. I have a laptop and wireless, so when my desktop is hammering on the dvd, I can play on the laptop in my living room....
Didn't work for me. Some reason, my DVD-R (Fuji, 4.7) aren't working with Nero only when I try to encode/convert from avi....
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/ This lead to a 5 page listing of convertors.
I would like to know as well. I have used WinAVI, new and old versions, and the dvd was choppy, audio was off...etc. Maybe you can try this:select "PAL" for target format, and select"Enable DirectAC3",adjust aspect ratio for picture to 99%(height and width).
