Hey(!) Ireland. Nice running into you since we "live" in different neiborhoods nowadays. BTW, your post, at cdfreaks, on re-enabling DMA in XP has reached legendary status(!) and is often provided as a link to answer "slow backups" questions. I think cdf members sometimes wonder "where did that masked man go ..." I never had the heart to tell them that AD is your true kingdom. If [bold]YOU[/bold] post that you end up liking neXt then I guess that I'll [bold]HAVE[/bold] to pay some attention to it since you have no problem telling it like it is and trashing anything that is bogus. But I too hate activation schemes and my dedicated backup box doesn't even have AV or a FW (conflict avoidance) so I fear hooking it up to the web. Like I said above I've been using DXC 1.5.2 for my splits except when I run into Sony or Arccoss type block/sector mastering protections that only CloneDVD2 can handle. AnyDVD handles CSS just fine but DXC never anticipated purposeful mastering errors as a protection scheme. But neither did DVD-D, Shrink and even Nero to this day can't handle them without the constant tweeks that Slysoft/AnyDVD provides for continued Nero functionality. CloneDVD does real nice splits too but (silly) I just love that "Please Insert Disk 2" message that 1.5.2 gives me. Then I just advance my DVDchanger to tray2. CloneDVD just gives me a black screen at the end of disk1. Also 1.5.2 always finds the precise layer break of the original for easy splits, so no juggling to get the right size on disk1 and disk2 like with CloneDVD which will only split at the end of a chapter as the break point. If an original has only a few, very large chapters, getting a split with zero compression on both disks can be a problem. As far as making backups on dual layer media, CloneDVD, being a file mode transcoder, can't duplicate an original DVD's layer break. Instead it has to invent it's own, which can lead to playback freezups at the 50% layer transition point of the movie (expensive coasters!) with some movies and some players (only sometimes, and also the new release is much better at this now). [bold]But[/bold] with Clone[bold]CD[/bold]'s new capabilities to burn 1:1 ISO dual layer backups keeping the precise layer break of the original, I'll soon be doing all dual layer backups. I know DVD-D, in ISO mode, has done that for some time but I never went much for the freewares and DL media was so expensive till just recently. In L.A., Verbatim DL media has reached the price point I have been waiting for i.e. $2.00 a disk, when on sale (my requirement for quality branded SL media is $1.00 or less so $2 for DL media fits my sense of value). I think I'm gonna buy the BenQ 1640 (nice, user accessible bitsetting utility) to cover the hardware side of DL backups. Ditto pulsar to everything you said. Amazing how some people's words are a mirror of one's own mind. Best regards, Whisperer Edited for grammar and clarification.
Everything is so confusing to a person with basic computer skills. There are so many choices and it seems to me that you need a different package for different needs. I was going to purchase CloneDvd2, but now Whisperer says it doesn't do DL very well. I'm lucky if I can find DL media 3@$9.99 on sale. My Scottish blood won't let me pay that, never mind make coasters. I got upset making coasters learning CloneDvd2 @ $.25 disc Maxell MIJ's.
@mackdll I have been using CloneDVD to burn my dual layers and it has been working out pretty good. Have now done 3 using the last two ver. and have had no glitches.
hello again whisperer, the program and license key has just been sent to you so ye can test the new program out.. the main reason i am not at cdfreaks i am mod-ing a couple irish sites...and as ye know i have my own site...and i am on this site every day reading and poking fun at the members with me pictures.. as ye know i have tons of pixs as ye got a couple of 1000 from me. i hope ye enjoyed the ones i sent yesterday...i got a couple of reports that some of the rag tags (now) can not look at a donut.. and blame that all on klingon...as he sent me a couple of pixs and one with a soap dispenser.. cheers
Thanks arniebear, I still use 4.0.4.15 RF (no splash screen, browse to the hard drive) I mainly do movie only, I don't do menus as I just use the chapter skip on my remote. Special features, I have the originals anyways. I have quite a few that XCopy wouldn't do and/or play on my Toshiba/Sony. I'm so impressed with "AnyDvd", that I don't mind giving these great folks my business or recommending to my friends. Still a few things I like about Xcopy that CloneDvd2 doesn't have. Guess you can never have too much in your arsenal???
So Ireland...........are you going to give us a review, or wait until I've purchased CloneDvd2, and then rave about NeXt??? Can you remove subtitles/unwanted junk and select audio tracks? Wonder if the titles I couldn't do with DvdXCopy will work with this and play in my Toshiba/Sony? How's it for splitting? I have put you on a pedestal as "Software King", and go by your recommendations. I really don't like giving my money without trying first.
mackdl stick with clonedvd and anydvd,as this DVDneXtCOPY software is new and some bugs has to be taken care of..which a new update will be out soon.. look at this guide to get a idea... DVD neXt COPY Users Guide http://www.dvdnextcopy.com/setup/UG_DVDneXtCopy_V1.pdf there web site http://www.dvdnextcopy.com/ note:i been using clonedvd and anydvd since day one..so far in my option its the best software out..... cheers, and good night all..
I LOVED my Platinum RF version, it was dead easy to use, but due to the new encryptions it was unable to do Madagascar & a few others. I am gutted it is redundant now! I have had CloneDvd2 & AnyDvd (AnyDvd for a few years now - preferred it to Dvd idle) for a while & I like the way I can keep certain subtitles & audio (I keep the French audio & subtitles 'cos it is good for practising!), you couldn't do that with Platinum! It was a good prog in its' time, but I prefer my CloneDvd. It just seems to do the job with the minimum of fuss. I have never got on with Recode (could never seem to work - but that is probably me) or shrink & Nero. I like things to be nice & simple & I am fortunate that I can buy any software I wish. Pity about Platinum, but one has to move with the times I guess...
When I got the email from the International, I was curious about the software. I purchased two different licenses from XCopy (for activation reasons) but to this day I mostly use Slysoft software for DVD copying. However, I did cut my teeth on 321 Studios software and in the beginning I really thought that the software was cool. Every once in a while I still have to turn to my DVDXCopy to copy a disk that Slysoft somehow won't copy (it ain't often though). I have used Shrink, Decrypter, Nero Recode w/ AnyDVD, DVDXCopy, DVDFab, DVD Region & CSS Free. Like Ireland, I swear by Slysoft because of the speed of their updating. I also like DVDFab. I really wish that Next Copy would have a way to try it out. I just like to try before I buy, that's all.
Ah, feels good to discuss old haunts again. As an old user who can remember when it was verboten to discuss the work around for how to get DVDXCopy to work when it shouldn't have been failing to begin with... excuse me for a moment... BURN THE OUTPUT FOLDER YOURSELF! Sorry, just had to finally break that old rule! LOL I remember discovering that solution on my own and posting about it, only to discover it had apparently only just been recently discovered. Then, retroactively decided it was considered circumventing the software. Anyway, just had to relieve some really old stress there. Back on topic, I no longer use DVDXCopy. Simply put, there are far better things out there now that are freeware. Plus, given how long it's been since it was last worked on, certain aspects of the DVD area have been drastically altered to make the job far more obtrusive. The biggest reason I don't use it, though, is that whole Platinum debacle. That software that never worked right, wasn't designed to work right, and was a beta in progress with each release. The plain DVDXCopy (eventually) worked, but, the DVD-5 splitting era was put to death with the concept of compressors like DVD Shrink. Now, in the era of DVD editing with things like DVDReMake and VOBlanker (or is it VOBBlanker or VOB Blanker?) even compression can be avoided in some cases, splitting a disc's contents WITHOUT having to split between Chapters. I bought DVDXCopy when it was $99 and used it for about 2 years. So, I don't feel too bad about some of what went down. I, too, though, feel slighted by, though I knew it was coming even when Moore said otherwise, that there was not a means created to use the software without activation. I got my money's worth out of the software, but, those who paid $150 for the Platinum part because that's all 321 sold, knowing full well it didn't work, I admit they didn't get their money's worth. As for activation, I would agree with boycotting anything that wants activation AND is garbage. :> So, don't buy things like Symantec products, they being probably the #2 culprit, behind Microsoft, in terms of cost versus the quality you get, both in terms of how well the software works and the fact that you have to activate it. I would say boycott Windows, but, we all know we have no other viable choice because Microsoft wants it that way. Either live with it or without. Eventually, though, at the current rate, even Windows will be released at such a higher rise in cost and lowering return in quality that even people like myself will just live without a newer version of Windows.

Thanks Ireland I just recently purchased CloneDvd2, didn't even wait for a discount. I did like that CloneDvd2 corrected IFO errors (whatever they are), so those backups that didn't play correctly on my Toshiba and Sony, now do. I also like that I am able to split discs and still have menus on both. Great for the TV series. The quality is equal to DvdXCopy, but I'm still having a longer time issue. I will have to get my son to come over and see if he can figure out why. I'll keep my eye on the problem threads for DvdneXtcopy, it appears there are still a few bugs that need to be worked out. For now, I'm happy with what I have.
mackdl ,what do you mean a longer time issue? you should be able to transcode and burn a dvd with clonedvd 2 and anydvd in about 20 to 25 minutes or your drive may have gotten into PIO mode when that need to be in DMA mode you can fix that in device manager
hello, How do you change to DMA in device manager? I went in and looked but nothing about DMA or PIO I saw?
