ok guyz..i actually didn't realize that Platinum Ver.4.0.4.15 is ripper free version but i can still backup my dvd's just the i use to infact i think ripper free version is better because now when i backup my dvd's, i don't get that "dvd backup splash screen". So basically the dvd get backedup just like orignal. :)

calliguy: Does your version get around the copy protection on commercial DVDs?. Because that is the bit that 321 had the legal hassle with.If it does it sounds good. Ispy

If you look on Afterdawn Homepage news of firmware update, click on link,it warns NOT to try 530 firmware update on any other drives because it can screw them up and make them unusable,so take care.I use a Sony 510a with the latest 10d firmware in each of my 2 comps. Regards

Hey !! Does anyone run across a problem in DVDShrink? I have tried backing up a Megadeth DVD 4 different times, and it looks and sounds great, but when it gets to the very last VOB file, the video looks fine, but there is no sound. I tried using decrypter and smartripper and it does the same thing. I am debating on whether I want to use Xpress and risk scrapping out a DVD when the other softwares don't work either. Am I overlooking something??

Hi all, just read this entire post, and registered! I usually use "tomdrayson" everywhere I register but in this case nicknames have to be under 10 letters :'(. Anyway, first of all gratitude must go to this brilliant site, and PsiDOC for his dedicated work.
I currenly have the latest (as far as I know) versions of Nero, CloneDVD, DVD Decryptor, DVD Shrink, DVD X Copy Platinum, DVD2One, and a nice little pair of programs I used without really knowing what I was doing, to remove the DVD-Backup screen from a backup - IFOEdit and DVD-Stripper - not quite sure how, but it took a long time to find the correct part, which was in VTS_01_0.VOB and it also took its time reencoding all the files in the VIDEO_TS folder :S:S so I won't be doing that again. So, some questions :p
First thing is that Xpress in my Platinum version reads DVDs, then closes without letting me burn so I use advanced which limits a lot :S any ideas?
I have noticed that DVD Shrink has slightly more clumsy compression that DVD X Copy - egs with Van Wilder, whatever means were used for menu selections on the original (arrows, boxes etc) they were not present on the backup, and sound was missing in a few areas of the menus, and special features (I always like to backup full discs) - my god this is a long post. What's the definitive reaction on Shrink and X Copy then???? What about DVD2One??? Also, am I correct in saying that CloneDVD will not read an original DVD to an image file, it says it is protected - I have to use Decrypter. And when burning with Nero, it says compatibility cannot be ensured whatever that means :S
    Phew. Many thanks!

welcome :), as you can see i'm a newbie too.in answer to your first question, the only thing that springs to mind is 321 studios have a blacklist for their software(the ones that can interfere with}.might be an issue,*S* but then again,it could anything,as weird things do happen in modern technology, proccess of elimination i would suggest *S*.
your second statement with regards to compression,i agree with you in having to say dvdx copy (i use xpress)does have a better compression setup,as for the rest,i have tried, with the exception of dvd2one,firstly with regards to dvdclone you must have anydvd running in the background to be able to make a full back up of a dvd,if you don't have this running, you WILL get the message cannot such and such as this disc is protected *S*.my preferences are 1...dvdx copy xpress,2....clonedvd then 3... dvd decrypter

Thank you for your reply, I presume when you say DVD Decrytper, you mean along with DVD Shrink? Am currently making a backup of the Matrix Reloaded using Decrypter/Shrink combo because I don't like the DVD-Backup screen, even though the compression may be worse!! I will try using AnyDVD with CloneDVD sometime. It must be quite difficult comparing compression quality though, unless there are obvious mistakes, like lack of sound or blocky pixelation...

What do you mean "Shrink works"? Does it DECRYPT or not? Because the most common usage is with DVD Decrypter so I'm guessing it doesn't. Burning software eg Nero integrates into Shrink anyway.

This is probably the wrong section but I am in dire need of help, please can someone assist with the following.

Using DVDXCopy 3.2.1 I've successfully ripped the Underworld DVD to my hard drive using the advanced part of the program. Upon trying to burn the data to DVD it simply won't work. It tell's me that the data cannot be burnt to DVD and that I should refer to the log. Here is what the log tells me:-

Generating Compression Settings for 1 titlesets.

Total Sectors: 3947024 Overall Compression Pct: 57.9126

    Titleset 1: 57 % Size: 3947024
    Compressed Titleset 1: 57 % Size: 2249803 (4,607,598,080)

    Total Compressed Sectors: 2249803 (4,607,596,544)

-- Single Disc with Compression --
    >> Titleset Compression 1: Size: 2249803 (4,607,596,544)
    Done Reading..
    Load burn engine.
0040B4F0: New BLANK or ERASABLE DVD media has been inserted - progress is the media change count, starting from 1:
    Writing Disc: UNDERWORLD
0040B4F0: Gathering file from the path passed
    0040B4F0: Finished.
0040B4F0: Files are too big to fit on a DVD+/-R(W):
    0040B4F0: Ready To Write.
    0040B4F0: Found Media.. lets write

And there is nothing more in the log but that. I've attempted this 3 times with the same result every time. On the last attempt, I took the files and tried to burn them via Nero but apparently the data is just too big to fit onto a DVD. I thought the idea was to compress the DVD enough to fit it onto a DVD. My other copies worked fine, this is the first problem i've had, can anybody help, please? Cheers.

Delete the DVD X Copy files from your harddrive and use DVD Shrink to decrypt, compress at custom levels if needed, remove menus and extras to increase quality of movie if wanted and then burn all in one!!

it sounds like you have a software issue,or maybe your HDD is getting full, does that sound reasonable? you haven't forgotten to remove a previous movie?
or do as t_drayson has suggested.
is the original clean and free from major grooves/scratches?never heard of this happening with dvdxcopy,i don't know how long the film you are backing up is,but its obviously bigger than 4.7GB,I do however notice when i back up a dvd9 with xpress that due to the lenght of the film and the compression needed, the film pauses momentarily a couple of times during play back, nothing terrible though.(thats a 183 min film)3 hour movie.
