Hello! I'm currently having problems getting my old NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG drive to write to 16x DVD-R media (Maxell Pro-X 1-16X) I've never tried to write to DVD-R media before, usually stick to +R's but i happened upon a pack of them earlier today and am having problems burning anything to them. Maxell disks are total crap.. same as TDK.. Why people continue to post threads with this problem with these crappy disks is unbelievable. CHEAP 16X MEDIA IS RUBBISH. Even if you mess about updating your firmware (and risking ruining a perfectly good burner in the process) you will never get a good burn.. TDK 16x dvd-r.. 100 on a spool.. 86 failed to complete a burn with a NEC 3550A (IMHO te best burner money can buy)
The problem I'm having has no relation to the actual media itself - as it cannot actually begin to write to the DVD; "Illegal disc" error; quits before anything is burned. They may not be the best media but they should at least begin to burn rather than abort before anything happens; even should they fail during the burn process. All I was asking is if anyone knows a firmware build for the 3500AG that supports -R Thanks for the reply
