Far as I know usage is minimal, you could run the server box & normal PC usage without exceeding limits set by provider

    Hi,
I am usung S*y broadband to card share.
I read somewhere that I should foward my ports or something to mask my activities.
Could someone please advise if this is so and how to do this.

    Thanks

    Besty

you have to forward port 12000 for share to work, piopat's great tut at the begining of this thread explains everything, have a read of that, it's not too difficult, but you'll need to concentrate if your not very good with this sort of stuff.

    Hi Guys
Congrats on the really educational tuts. I have not been around here in a few years, since my days as a Replay Lite anorak ;-)

Have just dusted off my old 'L plates' and read through the posts in this thread. Thanks to the great work by piopat, Fintanni and others I think I now have a good grasp of how this all works. A couple of things I am still unclear on though, in a hypothetical sense and to help further my education:

If someone had a white shy ca~d and a DM500s and wanted to cs with 5 family members who each wanted boxes in two rooms:

    1. Would this be too many shares for a single sly ca~d and cause freezing, glitches or over-clock etc?
    2. If ok above, would it be best to give individual clines for each box directly from the DM500s with the ca~d or give each family member 1 cline with 1 re-share?
    3. Again if above possible, what would the 'hop' number for this type of share be set at?

Thanks in advance for your insight and help

Thanks for that. Think I need to do some more reading about hop settings so that I fully understand thier purpose.

    Thanks again

am i right to say, that, if i have a static ip (external), i can replace any external cline with my ip address instead of dyndns.
i'm having probs with dyndns, i think. should i be able to set up an internal shared box using external cline i.e dyndns/my static ip?
    e.g
at the moment, i'm using cline
    c:<external ip> <user> <password>
and it works as an internal shared box, should this work externally, it's hard for me to check.

    no.
c: externalipaddress routerport user pass no
static ip replaces dyndns requirement (and indeed need to update dyndns). so if you have a static ip then good for u

sorry fint, of course routerport is there as well. but good to know that set up should work.

dan, at the moment it is an internall share, but i plan to share with a few mates, and i think a direct link to my router will work better.

    Hi guys

    Quick question re: bouquets.

Is there a recommended app somewhere out there that can create the channel list (i.e. using Sly's numbering system) automatically?

I've just been looking at bouquetwizard 3.0.2 but all that gives me is a .rar file and I'm not sure what I need to do with that.

    Thanks in advance.

take a look at lyngsat or Sgt.flipflop. Think Sgt has new addon which enables chann. list
updating automatically from internet. Some of the other chann lists need an awful lot of extra programs installed & won't update properly unless everything is just so. I will send
you a link when I come across it

Thanks for the tut Piopat and the other guys who helped answering questions on this tread. I would not have set my DM800 up so easily without you guy. I have a question should, I switch DHCP off on friends boxes (clients) giving the client boxes static IPs mine being the server in which I have switched DHCP to off.
What's the advantage or disadvantage if any thanks again

As far as I know, there should be no need to give them static ip addresses, and there would be no advantage to it. If it works fine without them, don't bother.

    Alright fintannl and piopat.

I have been using a payserver for a while now, but I think I am going to get myself another 500S and full sky card(with setanta ireland,setanta1) and set myself up to share this out to family.

Piopat's instructions are very good(he got some of them off me :) ), how much money would I be paying a month for this full sky card and is it possible to use a dreambox 500S as the server?is it stable enough, considering it will be on 24/7

    Thanks lads

there is no reason why client boxes should need or require static ip addresses as sg8 says. kopkidda, you know the channels you want, sky have the packages. logon to to their website and find out. dm500 is fine as server and indeed can serve hd to clients while unable to display hd itself. your packages are your choice
