Sorry to be the voice of doom, but the 3700+ is good for about 2750mhz depending on the stepping of the proc, then your gonna need a better HSF as well to keep it cool ....
This would be a better bet a OEM AMD 146 opteron http://www.scan.co.uk/products/productinfo.asp?WebProductID=403003 & a Artic cooler freezer pro 64 http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=340993 , you would be able to clock that cpu to around 2950mhz with that mobo .... oh & that cpu & hsf work out cheaper (£134.17) than the 3700+ (£144.79) for more performance ... don't take this as gospel it's just my opinion :)

Yeah, 2.6-2.7 is about your limit with the 11x Multiplir series. Opterons are indeed also better.

Lol well just ordered it so it should be alrite anyway!
I doubt il get it upto 3.0Ghz but theres no harm in trying my case is pretty ventilated and plenty of fans.

also i found the 3700 in a special deal so i was really looking at the 3500 so anything above that is a bonus!!

    Cheers for all your help!

Yeah heat really won't be an issue, the CPU or memory just won't run stable enough to allow that sort of speed.

3080mhz is just about stable at running windows but nothing else. You'll find if you try to game at anything above 2.8 you'll get problems.

Well 2.8 is nothing to be laughed at. It should be fine anyway its a huge up from the 3500 and youve gotta admit that!

Nice link, they was using a DFi mobo which are regarded as the best overclocking mobo's around , you'll be limited my your mobo as it only has vcore adjustment upto 1.5v & it really don't like anything over a 300fsb so your looking at 2.7 what with being restricted my the mobo.... here's a link that you'll find interesting http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=59406 , don't worry to much as that cpu @ 2.7 with it's 1mb cache is a pretty sweet proc :)

Ok this a pretty stupid question but what exactly does cache do?

Cache is an area of superfast memory located on the processor itself, that contains the processor's current and shortly coming tasks. If you run an application small enough to fit in cache, then the CPU need look no further than itself to run it, allowing for a big boost in performance as was shown in the false Conroe test. However, real world tasks rarely fit inside a cache. Generally, the more cache the better, but having a faster core speed is generally a better performance increase (i.e. I'd rather have a 2.4Ghz chip with 1MB cache than a 2.2Ghz chip with 2MB cache).

Lol just cant wait to get my hand on my new kit its gonna rock so bad!

    Lol!
By the way in my case i managed to overclock a 1.6 sempron to a stable 2.0.

    Which is pretty alright?
Not record braking records but runs all bennchmarking apps!
So im planning to reach about 2.8/9 as im buying an artic cooling fan to go with it!

I think that's another wishful overclock. Again, I'm not saying it's not possible but I wouldn't want to run heavy duty apps with that CPU above 2.3Ghz.

It'll be fine @ 2.7 honest, i got a mate with the same cpu at that speed he runs it 24/7 no problems ... i run my opty 165 @ 2.7 24/7 ( stock 1.8) & can play BF2 all day + it's prime stable for 48 hours+ :) .... anyway enjoy your new system when you get it together & let us know how it works out ;)

    Wow, that's incredible, a 70% OC.
An Opteron at 50% is good too btw.

    A 165 at 2.7Ghz is just about FX-62 speeds I think, so you've saved yourself a bundle!

lecsiy, OK but why specifically overclockers when dabs, savastore, ebuyer, aria, scan and misco are also at your disposal? Pulsar, that assumes he uses AGP.

My bad, I assumed he had AGP....

Having said that, his requirements are ambiguous to say the least!!!
