My friends gateway laptop broke, and they gave me their hard drive to retrieve the files for them. I hooked it to my pc using a usb adapter, but when I try to open the files, it says "You don't currently have permission to access this folder, to gain access, you need to click the security tab". I am using vista. what do I need to do to get these files for them?
you need to right click on the folder you want to access and you need to check properties/sharing/ and check the box that says "share this folder on the network". Thats how vista sometimes deals with external drives.
