I screwed up. I bought a cheap GameShark USB thing to connect MUs to back up saves onto my computer. However, when I did it, I downloaded the Action Replay save manager software for the PC. So, I backed up all saves in the Action Replay format. I did this because I was getting a replacement Xbox. Now, all of my saves are in Action Replay format on my computer, but I have no way to transfer them back to the Xbox because you need the Xbox Action Replay disc to uncompress them or something. So, now that you know what happened, does anyone know how to convert Action Replay save format into a standard Xbox format so that I can put the save files back onto my new Xbox? Or even to convert from Action Replay to GameShark format? Thanks in advance...
It sounds like you have your gamesaves on your PC via Action Replay... So why can't you just stick in your memory card or USB into your comp and transfer the files back over?
correct, they show up on the dashboard with an Action Replay Jewel, and the games can't read them. If it's like the PS2 version of AR, then these saves are compressed and need to be un-compressed to work. Was hoping there'd be some sort of conversion tool that I don't know about.
dunno as i have never done it before...send me and Quatratic a save in an email or something. i PM'd you with my email.
he he he .... your replies got me thinking ... so I opened up the ZIP file (yes, AR is zip format) to have a look around. There was a file called "datelinfo.xbx" of size 1KB, so I thought what happens if I delete this? It couldn't be that simple, could it??? Sure enough! Deleting that file was all it took. I then simply dragged the new zip file into the Xbox AR PC software interface to transfer it back to the Memory Unit. To my surprise, the software did not re-input that file into the zip. So, I was then able to simply insert the MU into a controller, transfer the file back to the HDD, and my saves are now fine again. I haven't tried this with everything, but the couple that I did try seemed to work fine. The Xbox Jewel in the Dashboard is now back to normal, and doesn't have the AR icon. Thanks for the mind-jarring support so that I would think to try that.
Thanks, schmotz ... but I should be okay now. It'll take a bit longer to re-transfer my saves, but they appear to work after removing that single file. If they don't though, I will keep you in mind. Thanks for the offer!
