I have been having problems with an external DVD writer (who hasn't!). So I already have a slow DVD writer, and a DVD reader, the question I have is - can you have 3 drives on the same machine.

I have 1 HDD presumably on one cable, and the 2 DVD drives on another. I do have a spare 5.5" bay.

Will adding the writer as a slave on the HDD cable slow both up.

Would I be better ditching the DVD-ROM drive instead.

I need to know what's best as I'm about to ruin my 3-year warranty on the external Samsung (Gericom from Aldi UK) by unscrewing it.

If the original burner is faster than the reader you have, then shit can the reader. No need to clutter your system and run the risk of the power source no longer being sufficient. One drive to read and one to write is all you need anyway.
