The Pioneer 106 is dual but seems to be picky about media. The 105 has solid firmware available and works easily.

Does that sound right? I can't decide which one to buy. It sounds like the 105 is the safest choice for less problems with media. Are there any other reasons to go for the 106?

IMO if you have the extra cash to buy the 106, buy it. Dual format will come in handy in the future. Buying blank media and using (DVD-R and DV+R) just becomes a blur after using the 106. :)

The 106 also came out with a new firmware.

The 105 is coming down in price everytime I check it. So if you're tight on cash get it.

I personally own the 106, so far it's great!

Forget dual format, its not needed. Get the Pioneer DVR105 while you still can because it is a solid writer with RPC 1 hacks available for multiregioning and faster ripping.

LOL. I see Oriphus came to his senses.

    Multiformat sux..
Avoid it. Get a burner that does only one format.

Thanks to everyone for great information. I ordered a Pioneer 105 from mwave.com last night for $145 and some Ritek DVD-Rs from meritline.com.
