Looking to find out which model and what vendor to purchase a new DVD Rom drive. Already set with the Pioneer 107 as the burner but, I need another drive for reading only.

Heard good things about the Lite On, but there are so many different versions I have no idea which one to buy. Also heard about the LG but, again don't know much about it or pricing.

Any advice and help on vendors would be most appreciated, a good fast reader that doesn't get bogged down with errors is key.

    Thanks guys.

Straight DVD readers are getting harder to find and it's easy to understand when a combo drive (DVD reader and a CD-R/RW} only costs about 10 to $15. more. I would personally prefer using a combo drive so that I don't have to use my DVD burner to back CD's to reduce wear on my DVD Rom. The Lite-on is an excellent choice for its speed, reliability, and regular firmware updates. You can get a combo drive at newegg.com for $42.

The Liteys are very nice but i still use my LG16x :) ... can't argue with it: $5. :p

For most tasks people will encounter, virtually any DVDROM will be sufficient.
