no u don't need a subscription ... if you know where to point the aerial and got good line of sight to the transmitter u should be fine ... u will need a power supply to send power to the aerial
i wud recommend a basic subscription .. then at least u u wud have multiroom!

for mmds boxes there is a black box behind the box this is power supply the cc supply these with installations but if u only have thr aerial u will need to get one.. the cost about €20 on most of the box sites.. look up mmds equiptment
it is important to know what cc u recieve from n*l or ch***s
if ur on ch***s the digivox-t is what u will need ..cost about €80 so u would have all for under a ton

    hi glenview

Im in Tralee (in the road from you)

i put up the chor** aerial and pointed it to the mountains on the right of the aquadome
as far as I know you MAY have to point yours to Ballybunion to see the transmitter (a different transmitter)

I bought the digivox T a few weeks ago for €85 from england

there is a thread already called

    digivox T (get it going)

    and

digivox T (get it going UPDATED)

have a read it may help you

    glenview,

the best thing to do is have a look
to see if your neighbours have a chor** aerial

    IF NOT......

I have an RTE and TV3 aerial on my roof (you know the ones)
I fairly sure you point it the EXACT DIRECTION as TV3 one is facing
If not its the RTE one

but it is definately one of then for sure I just looked
my chor** aerial is pointed the same way as 1 of them

you know the aerials there are 2 on it
1 faces one way and the other just off it

this will now give you the direction

    it worked for me

let me know how you get on...

if you have all the same gear as me it will
    there are alot of boxes
some people say some boxes are better than others

but they are into wide screen, recording and all that
I just want to watch a couple of programmes

just make sure its for you and of course if you knew someone that would lend you their box to try it would be great

i was in the same boat as you
I read all the forums and asked a few questions
and made up my mind to take a chance and invest..

as I said let me know how you get on
