    Yes, Windows will be deleted. You'll have to reinstall it.

    You'll have more luck researching for yourself. Look here and here.

    There are literally thousands of tutorials on how to reformat a HD and reinstall Windows.

    Good luck! :)

    Hey, i've been looking around and i found in the manual i got with my dell coomputer that it has a "Dell PC restore". it says that it reestores the hard drive to the operating state it was in when you purchased the computer. it deletes all data on hard drive. Would this option be as good as manually reformatting the hard drive.

    @stevo
    In HP machines it's called the recovery partition,basicly it automates the reformat instead of using disks so yes it is the same as a manual install tho it is automatic,one thing make sure before reconnecting to the net that you have a firewall enabled and then go directly to microsoft and update the OS,then update all other software,you can cruise to cnet for free firewalls and antivirus software (free in you make no payments what so ever) i.e
    AVG antivirus-free version
    Zonealarm-free version

    You have norton antivirus installed but from factory built machines it is only a 1-3 month trial version after which you have to pay a yearly sub which i suspect is why you have been infected in that it has stopped updating,if you decide to remove norton you must go to their site and download their removal tool as using add/remove will not work properly

    ps-you can use the laptop to burn a firewall and antivirus to a rom then install both that way before connecting to net

    Hey stevos5, good to hear from you again. Yes, you will need to install drivers. If a Utility Disc came with your computer install them from it. If you don't have the Utility Disc you'll need to search the internet for the drivers for your hardware.

    Hey, thanks for your response. I installed most drivers i think and everything seems to be fine except for the sound. The dell resource disk said that i needed to install the Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio, v.5.12.01.4060,A18. I followed the instructions but during installation it says "driver not found! Reboot your system, and run this setup again." I then had a look at the sheet i was given with my computer with the contents and it said i have a Sound Blaster(R) Live!(TM) 24-bit Sound Card. Do you have any suggestions as to what to do. Greatly appreciated.
