I have read and re-read every thread and post regarding the Nero Illegal Disk error. I think I have done everything you guys have suggested but I'm still running into the same problem.

I have upgraded from Nero 7.2 to the 7.7.5. I have done the Lite-On 1693 firmware update as suggested and am using Sony DVD-Rs.

I've slowed down the burn from 16x to 6x (The lowest option Nero Express gives me in the drop down menu.) I have tried 1x,2x and 8x in Nero Vision 4 and still nothing.

Since upgrading to 7.7.5 it no longer asks me to save a log file so my only log file is from the TDK media I was using and 7.2 Nero before the upgrade, did I shut the log file option off somewhere?

Anyway I've been burning literally hundreds of disks of various media types and have never had one problem, now I'm having problems each time. I have nothing running in the background, even though my memory isn't as high as you suggested I've not had any problems before.

Here's my log file from before all the changes, as soon as I figure out how to post the new log file I'll get that one up too...

I know I need to slow down my burn, keep as much memory available as possible, use good media and make sure my software and hardware is up to date. I think I've done all that but still have problems.

Is my burner just toast? I've had it for almost two years and have burned 100's of DVDs and CDs, do you guys think it's just time to get a new burner?

I have ordered a new burner from Newegg just in case.

It may indeed be the case that your burner is bad. My 1693 never was worth a darn and had a short life.

Have you tried burning with ImgBurn?

    http://www.imgburn.com

Have you tried going back in time with an earler operating system restore point when you know the burner worked?

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

I'll not comment on anything in the log since you said it's an old one. Logs are always stored in the NeroHistory file:

    Local Disk(C) > Program Files > Nero > Nero7 > Core > NeroHistory

I'll try the restore... for some reason my log history isn't being saved in the place you wrote... but I tried again and was able to get this log file... this file is with the new updated firmware, updated Nero and Sony media.

I'm thinking my burner is just toast.

I did the restore and what do you know, it seemed to have fixed my problem.

    THANKS!!

I've used Restore before to fix other problems but never would've thought to use it to fix this problem.

2 disks already burned successfully... :)

    Great!

There was a WinXP overnight update late last week that trashed my OS. Restore got it working but I ended up having to reformat and reinstall the OS because of persistent problems. Sometimes it works and sometimes not. It's great when it does.
