I also use NOD32. Fantastic but I still have two freebies (AVG and Anti-Vir) for the occassional on demand scanning. I also used to use AVAST which was ok too.

I use SAV10. It is wierd how Symantec can make SAV use under 25mb of RAM, but Norton can go over 100mb easy. Also, SAV10 has a very good adware/spyware scanning engine. Kept my PC clean since install.

For a firewall, I use Sygate personal Pro. Very good and only uses 8Mb RAM.

Has anyone ever used Etrust Ez Antivirus from http://home.ca.com I recently started to use it after becoming frustrated with Norton's 2005. I have been a loyal Norton's user for years. I'm presently trying this antivirus software(which has a 1 yr free trial) along with AVG antivirus and so far it has picked up infected files that AVG missed. Not that AVG is by any means a premiere antivirus program but it's a decent feebie. BTW I whole-heartedly endorse the proposal of an antivirus/firewall forum. Maybe it could be extended to include anti-spyware, registry cleaners, etc. Something more along the lines of a Computer Security Forum. How's this for a forum title.....Lean,Clean & Mean Machine.

    just info

    ZoneAlarm Free 6.1.737.000
ZoneAlarm makes it easy. Unlike other personal firewalls, ZoneAlarm protects automatically from the moment it's installed - no programming required. ZoneAlarm barricades your PC with immediate and complete port blocking. And, then runs in Stealth Mode to make your PC invisible on the Internet - if you can't be seen, you can't be attacked.

ZoneAlarm delivers simplicity without compromising your security. A getting started tutorial explains controls and alerts to get you up and running quickly. And, to keep you confident that you're always protected, intuitive color-coded alerts rate security risks - in real time.

For basic, "no frills" firewall protection, ZoneAlarm® is the popular first step for many home PC users. And it's still FREE* for individual & non-profit use.

I've tried alot of AV's and firewalls.

The best software firewall is definitely Sygate...while lesser known than Norton or Zone Alarm it is superior. A hardware firewall or router is something I find essential, too.

As far as antivirus, I run AVG free. I've heard many times that Kaspersky is topnotch, tho I haven't tried it.

Norton products are ineffective bloatware in my opinion...although I like Norton Go-Back(originally published by Wildfile) as long as you're not running Linux.

Norton's definitely exemplifies bloatware especially their Norton's System works 2005. I use Zone Alarm Pro(not the latest version) as well and it's an excellent firewall program. Zone Labs now has an Internet Security Suite which offers antivirus, antispyware, triple firewall,id & privacy protection,anti-phishing,spam blocker, web filtering, etc. Sounds like a good product. But my lessons form Norton's have made me sceptical of traditional brand names.

    Hi,

Been procrastinating removing norton as looking for a less resource hog. Tried avg really good and didn't conflict with norton. Anyone have issues with avg ? Read and re-read all the posts here and still at a loss where does it fall in antivirus ratings.
