I'm considering purchasing a new DVD burner today. I saw a couple that looked decent and were priced pretty reasonably. They are: LG Electronics GSA-5163D ($130), and Pacific Digital U30274 ($100). The LG is a triple format, and the Pacific is a dual format. Being new at this, what's the difference? Thanks!
Hi there, I own an LG-4040B (4x) older drive. I was so happy with it, I was going to get a new LG. (LG-4163B Internal). But now I have a NEC-3450A (Dell OEM) that came with my new Dell PC. I am very pleased with the NEC-3450A (OEM of the NEC-3500 it seems). I've heard good of Pioneer 109, but guess what, the Pioneer has NEC Chipset, so I guess NEC are not that bad after all. I have also heard good about Plextor, a little more expensive but seems worth every dollar ! My 2 cents = Nec / LG / Pioneer / Plextor. Pick what your wallet can Buy good media, you will be happy...
Thanks Cougar, I appreciate it. I went to Sam's over lunch and bought the LG. Looks like it burns in 16X for both + and - ... As far as the suggestion for good media, what do you suggest? I already have some TDK (both + and -). Does it matter what type you get (+ or -) - what's the difference?
TDK are good, also Maxell, Ritek, Taiyo Yueden. + or - are no different in terms of burning, however -r has the highest compatibility with older standalones............ +r are becoming more comaptible, but obviously with newer standalones........... Try either, but if you want to play it safe, go with the -r's............
